Kennesaw Mountain in Georgia

February 9, 2009; Kennesaw Mountain

I headed over to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park today to see the sights and eat a cheeseburger on top of this mountain northwest of Atlanta. Kennesaw Mountain rises to 1,808 feet according to the topo maps. On weekdays, you can drive up to the parking lot on the northeast side of the mountain and make a short hike over the top. The summit is adorned with Civil War cannon and many storyboards tell of the conflict in the area. It was somewhat overcast today, but I did catch a glimpse of the Atlanta skyline at one point. This is a great park, even if you’re not interested in cheeseburgers.
