Dead Horse Point, Utah, May 3, 2009

After waiting out some early day Thunder Showers, we decided to take a side trip out to the Picturesque Dead Horse Point.  Dead Horse Point is a promontory of stone surrounded by steep cliffs near Moab Utah (to quote the Dead Horse State Park Website).  The name of Dead Horse Point comes from it’s history as a natural corral for  fencing in wild or stolen horses.  The neck leading to Dead Horse Point is only 30 feet across and has thousand foot cliffs on each side.  Horses that were left here were doomed to die as there is no water available.  Because of this, we stopped at a local market and picked up water to make sure that we didn’t get parched.

To say that the views from Dead Horse Point are spectacular does not do them justice, it is truly a view and a lesson on geology at the same time.  After walking the multiple tens of feet to the look out deck, we quickly devoured our remaining McDonalds Cheeseburgers.  Splasher was still recovering from her Arrowhead Hill Cheeseburger and decided to abstain.
