Brayton Point, UT – A Red Rock Canyon Ramble

After our encounter with the 20+ foot tall Roller Mill Hill we decided to take on a bit more of a challenge. The day was going to be spent at Bryce Canyon National Park, but we couldn’t find any accessible, named summits. A short visit to the ranger station in Panquitch, Utah gave us the idea of hiking in the Red Rock Canyon area. Red Rock Canyon is found on Route 12 on the way into Bryce. We chose Brayton Point as our destination.

We found the trailhead just a few hundred yards past the Park Headquarters. The 2.5 mile hike is primarily through a juniper and ponderosa pine forest.

We stayed on the Cassidy trail; yeah, named after Butch Cassidy. Apparently he hid here – like everywhere else in Utah. The hike was about 2.5 miles. Finally, at Brayton Point, the view opened up and we looked into Losee Canyon.

Cheeseburgers were dispatched at the summit and the hike back was a pleasant stroll through the forest.
