Ode to Wimp(y) – Mount Baldy

After yesterday’s thrilling ascent of Quarry Peak (see post below) resulted in a summit Cheeseburger shutout for sirloinofbeef (due to a lack of Cheeseburgers) a comeback was planned on Mount Baldy. Located in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Mount Baldy stands at 11, 068 feet tall – but its neighbor, Hidden Peak, is serviced by the Snowbird Ski Resort Tram. How convenient for us!

The Snowbird Tram

So, $12 and a 10 minute tram ride up to Hidden Peak brought dinoboy and sirloinofbeef to within a mile of the summit of Mount Baldy. We headed east on an access road until, at the foot of Mount Baldy, we found the small trail that snakes up a ridge to the summit. Even though we were hiking in July we had to cross several small snow fields that blocked the trail. After further slogging up its barren slopes we encountered the summit of Mount Baldy. Its treeless pate provided gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains. We could even make out the obelisk that marks the top of — The Obelisk. A pair of nanosummitcheeseburgers were produced to make the ascent official.

The Obelisk

As dinoboy summed it up, “That was an awesome hike!”
