No, not Penny Lane… Pen Y Crug! (10/25/07, Wales)

After being irked by the overabundance of Redcoats at the Regimental museum in Cardiff, Gouda 2Go (a proud member of Boston’s new Revolutionary forces) decided to embark on a solo assault of the highest peak in Southern Wales, Pen y Fan. Unfortunately, due to an unyielding fog layer on what Wikipedia calls “the most dangerous peak in Wales,” the campaign was abandoned in favor of the less dangerous walk up Pen y Crug (331 m). The hike took a wandering path, past a castle almost entirely surrounded by a hotel, a grand cathedral, grazing sheep, a horse pasture, and a field filled with some sort of bush that probably used to be green but was now very, very brown. The cheeseburger was less impressive, with a tasteless pressed beef patty and wilted lettuce (or salad, as the guy at the chips counter called it.) However, the two slices of unmelted aged Welsh cheddar made the whole affair quite worth the effort.
