Cedar Point – The Hill, not the Amusement Park
August 12, 2007
To help Ohio maintain its ascendancy in Summit Cheeseburgering I ventured east for a family visit and asked my cousin find a suitable peak for a Cheeseburger. He noticed that Cedar Point was on the way (sort of) to our Wednesday evening skat game.
Cedar Point is the ridge of land overlooking the confluence of the East and West Branches of the Rocky River. From the Maple Grove parking lot in Rocky River Reservation we ascended the bridle trail to the top of the ridge and wandered to the point that looks down to the confluence. We spent some time looking for the USGS marker, maps suggest it is located just a ways back from the point, but we couldn’t find it. Settling on what appeared to be the highest point we pulled out the Cheeseburgers.
These burgers were from the Swenson’s in Seven Hills; on Broadview Road in between Pleasant Valley and Wallings Roads. Their schtick is to wait on you in your car. Starting in Akron, Ohio about 65 years ago, they have set up franchises throughout northeast Ohio. We ordered two Cheeseburgers to go and drove over to Cedar Point Hill. They were OK, nothing great – maybe we should have ordered the Galley Boy with its TWO special sauces. Since we’re on the topic of Cheeseburgers (we always are), I noticed an impressive stack of plastic Cheeseburgers (see photo below) at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. They’re there to illustrate what a 40 lb. child would have to eat in a day to match an earthworm’s appetite. The museum feeds their worms coffee grounds so they’re probably not sleeping much, but still, I’d have trouble with 400 burgers in 24 hours – not to mention all the hiking that goes along with it.
